meI’ve been trying and trying to lose weight for years, so when I heard about Autumn Calabrese’s 21 Day Fix program, I figured I really had nothing to lose, except for the weight. I bought the basic, or essential, package on Amazon, and started the program the following week.

Before the program, I wasn’t too bad about portion control until my midnight snack or soda cravings kicked in, and I would probably work out maybe two times a week on average between walking/running on my treadmill, doing yoga videos I found on YouTube, and maybe a few free weights every so often.

After completing the 21 Day Fix program, I saw noticeable results, quickly. It’s finally easy to lose unwanted weight, an amazing find from a program promises up to 15 pounds of weight loss in only 21 days. (I was skeptical at first, yeah)But it’s simple! You see, with this program, you still get to eat! It’s a combination of eating the correct portions of healthy food and completing one 30-minute workout each day. That’s it!

21-day-fix-containersFirst, the portion control system makes it so you’re eating right. You’re supplied with seven 21 Day Fix containers and a shaker cup for protein shakes or drinks, which I personally didn’t really use. They are color-coded for different kinds of food and premeasured to make sure the portion size is precise.

This helped me make sure I was getting all the nutrients I needed from all the food groups as well as the proper amount, which, let’s face it, no one is perfect at! If it fits in the container and it’s an approved food, you can eat it!

Don’t worry, you don’t have to eat it out of the container; you just have to make sure it is the right size. I no longer had to worry about calorie counting either, and it was so nice to not have to eyeball the portions, that I fell in love with my colorful containers. I think I will continue to use this method forever!

If you really want the program to work though, you have to do the workouts as well. I cannot stress this enough. Weight loss is always a combination of eating healthy, correct portions, and exercise, but, I know, it is just so hard to stay motivated. The 21 Day Fix program includes six easy workouts on DVD and they really kick your butt, as they’re made to do.

21 day fix programOn day one I definitely worked up a good sweat. The videos are also pretty short, so there’s always enough time in the day to make sure you get it done, which was fantastic for me because I have such a busy lifestyle and not a lot of time every day to commit to working out. Okay, okay, excuses aside, I know.

On day one, I immediately noticed the workouts challenged me with every single move. Luckily, there’s a modifier on screen to help dial down the intensity of the workout if you’re struggling like I was. I only struggled for about the first couple days until day five when I really noticed myself getting visibly stronger.

As soon as my strength and perseverance grew, I could keep up with the videos easier, without using the modifiers as much, sweating less, and not being out of breath as easily. About half way through the second week, my muscles seemed more toned, especially in my belly region. And by the third week, I didn’t even need the modifier at all.

Each video is a different work out, so you don’t have to do the same thing day in and day out. I found this to be awesome because it kept me engaged and gave my muscles a rest from the workout the day before, making it easier focus on a different area of my body, and making it easier to keep going.

The videos cover everything from Pilates and cardio to get your heart pumping to upper body, lower body, and abdominal days to strengthen your muscles, as well as a yoga day to improve balance and flexibility. First, Autumn will explain what to do as she introduces the moves and demonstrates for you. You can watch her or any of the background people to see what to do, and follow based on your own preference.

21 day fix resistance bandPersonally, I watched all the women to make sure I was doing all the moves correctly. For any of the workouts that require dumbbells or resistance bands, I recommend using only a three or five pound weight. Even if the workout doesn’t seem that hard, they really work your muscles, trust me. A yoga mat or some sort of cushion on the floor definitely helps as well.

It’s not necessary, but if you don’t want rug burn or bruises, it helps. I had a hard time with basically every ab workout. My belly pooch just wasn’t up to the task. But by day 6, I noticed my flab seemed less flabby. By the end of the second week, it seemed like my belly was almost completely gone!

I started out weighing 140.2 pounds and by the end I weighed 131.6 pounds. In 21 days, I lost a whopping total of 8.6 pounds. It may not sound like much, but I feel great! I am noticeably stronger, healthier, and I feel fantastic! My stomach, hips, and butt are smaller. My arms and legs are more defined, and most importantly, I love the way I look!

As you can see, it is working for me but what I am happy most with is how I feel. I literally feel great! I’ve continued using the containers as a measuring system for my food even after the program, but I definitely cheat a little and allow myself a small dessert or a soda at least once a week. All work and no play is no fun, right? I’ve also upped my workouts by adding in an extra work out time throughout the day, like making my hubby go for a 30-minute walk with me or something of that nature.

Overall, I loved this program. Even when it was hard, it was worth it. I’m fit, healthier, happier, and my husband loves my results as well!
